With Aaron’s ‘Kingpin’ story finished, ‘Bullseye’ will begin next month, and Aaron reveals a few neat tidbits, including the odd parallel to Hannibal Lecter that his story will have. From Newsarama:

Bullseye may seem pretty crazy in the regular Marvel Universe, but just wait until the PunisherMAX Universe gets hold of him.

In PunisherMAX, the new series by writer Jason Aaron and penciler Steve Dillon, villains from the Marvel Universe are getting a new twist in a title that exposes even their most evil and outrageous acts.

The series, which began in November under the Max imprint for mature readers, already brought the Kingpin into the PunisherMAX Universe, showcasing his brutal nature while pitting him against the angry guns of Frank Castle. In April, Kingpin brings an obsessive assassin named Bullseye into the fold as he’s hired to target Frank, giving the Punisher one of his most challenging foes.

Newsarama talked to Aaron about the five issues that have come out so far – with this week’s PunisherMAX #5 finishing up the Kingpin arc – and what readers can expect from the Max version of Bullseye that is introduced next month.

Newsarama: Jason, we talked about this a little before you started this series. But is the idea to kind of create your own universe where these Marvel characters can be explored without the limits of the regular universe?

Jason Aaron: Well, I feel like Garth had already created this universe. I don’t know if that’s what he intended. But if you look at his run in the Max universe, he brought characters along from the Marvel Knights run. So I treat it like it’s a separate universe from the Marvel Universe.

Newsarama has an interview with the creator/writer of Spider-Girl, Tom DeFalco. Here’s the bit about Punisher (click here to read the full interview):

Nrama: Why bring the Punisher out of retirement instead of introducing the MC2 Punisher?

DeFalco: I thought it would be fun to pit Frank Castle against Mayday Parker.  The Punisher is kind of the exact opposite of Spider-Girl in terms of motivation and philosophy.  Our current gang war story also gives us a perfect reason to bring Frank out of retirement.

The issue comes out in May. Does this mean Frankencastle won’t end for 15 years? When they say he’s coming out of retirement, is that just one more way for Marvel to say they’ll rewrite the character as many damn times as they like? Or should I just shut up and press “publish”? Yep, it’s the third one, at the very least. :\

Goran Parlov’s (the artist behind the final two brilliant arcs of Ennis’ MAX and some other MAX work) Facebook was updated recently with a teaser from an upcoming mini-series penned by Jonathan Maberry (Patient Zero, Black Panther) entitled Infected. This interview at CBR is the first that mentions it that I’ve come across:

Are you able to say anything about your Marvel work after “DoomWar?” Are you going back to “Black Panther?”

Right now the plans are for me to return to “Black Panther,” and there will be a lot of wreckage to clean up. I’ve made some pitches for what I’d do next with that book and others, and they’re big-canvas stuff.

I have another limited series starting this spring, “Marvel Infected.” It’s a Marvel Knights four-issue thriller featuring the Punisher, Spider-Man, Hulk, and other heroes in a wild, wild dystopian thriller. Goran Parlov is drawing them and he’s hitting it out of the park.

Sounds interesting! I look forward to it. I’m a big fan of Parlov, and Maberry wrote Patient Zero, one of my favourite novels of last year. His latest novel, the sequel to Patient Zero, entitled The Dragon Factory, hits bookstores this month.
